What is my IP address?
The address above belongs to Amazon.com, Inc. (AS16509), not a typical home or office internet connection. That means you are most likely connected through a VPN, proxy or hosted server, so websites see this address and location instead of your real ones.

What is an IP address?
An IP address is the number that identifies your connection on the internet, the way a street address identifies a house. When you visit a website, that site sees your public IP address, which is assigned by your internet provider (or your VPN, if you use one). The address above is what the internet sees when you connect to IPHere.org.
Public vs. private IP address
Your router gives each device at home a private address (such as 192.168.1.20) that only works on your local network. Every device shares one public address on the internet. That is the one this tool shows.
IPv4 vs. IPv6
IPv4 addresses (203.0.113.7) are the long-standing standard, but the world has nearly run out of them. IPv6 addresses (2001:db8::1) solve that with a vastly larger space. If you see an IPv6 address above, your connection supports the newer protocol.

Frequently asked questions
What is my IP address?
Your public IP address is shown at the top of this page. It is the internet-facing address that websites see when you connect.
Is my IP address private?
Your public IP can reveal your approximate city and your internet provider, but not your name or street address. A VPN replaces it with the VPN server's address.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.7 and are running out. IPv6 addresses look like 2001:db8::1 and provide a vastly larger address space. Many connections now have both.
Why does my IP location look wrong?
IP geolocation is approximate. It usually reflects your provider's regional hub, so it can be off by tens or hundreds of miles, especially on mobile networks.
Is IPHere.org free?
Yes. Free, no ads, no signup, and there is a simple API for scripts.
